BRS’s biorefining technology has already been proven applicable to processing a wide range of vegetables on a pilot scale, yielding similar protein products as with water lentils and onion residues. Crops tested in different projects include Spinach, Endives, Nettle, Lucerne/Alfalfa, etc. Particularly spinach protein has been successfully tested in meat replacer products (e.g. veggieburgers) in collaboration with Provalor BV. Technically the biorefinery needs to be recalibrated for different crops, and sometimes different pretreatment methods are required, but the extraction process is remarkably robust and similar.
